Jim Corbett National Park was founded as Hailey National Park in 1936. It was renamed as Ramganga National Park but the name was again changed in the loving memory of Jim Corbett, a British sportsman and hunter. The Jim Corbett National Park provides a natural habitat for immense flora and fauna.

The national park area was established to prevent the rapid increase in tiger poaching. Tigers have been the victims of poaching for decades. It is believed that their body parts possess many healing properties — claws are used for treating insomnia, bone is used for treating rheumatism and penis as an aphrodisiac. Tigers were classified in the category of endangered species in 1986.

The Jim Corbett National park protects the tigers by providing them a natural habitat and allows them to exercise power and be free. Tigers prey on many animals but due to scarcity of food around, they become man-eaters.

When Jim Corbett National park was established, the population of tigers was around 150 but today, it stands at 266. The Jim Corbett National Park provides a space to the tigers that is much better than captivity.
