Exploring Ranthambore’s Wildlife and Local Crafts 2026

Back to wall

Our journey began with a visit to Dastkar NGO, which taught us that we do not require expensive machines to make handicrafts. We learnt that Dastkar supports local artisans and promotes traditional crafts such as block printing and embroidery. Established in 1989, Dastkar Ranthambore helps women from nearby villages earn a livelihood through handmade products, including bags, scarves, and home furnishings. In the evening, we watched a wildlife documentary and enjoyed a storytelling session. Then, we had fun at the DJ party, enjoying music and dancing, followed by dinner.

The next morning, we woke up early for our jungle safari in Ranthambore National Park. We enjoyed the early morning transfer and the stops along the route. Located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, the park is considered one of the best places to spot Indian wildlife. It gets its name from the historic Ranthambore Fort, which stands within the national park.

As our safari started, we noticed that the park is dominated by the Anogeissus pendula tree, also known as Dhok. We learnt that its bark, leaves and twigs have traditionally been used to treat wounds, skin diseases, and digestive problems. Throughout the safari, we saw various water bodies called talabs. We learnt that these water sources, including historic tanks, provide drinking water for wildlife, especially during the dry season.

We also discovered that tigers are the park’s apex predators. Other animals found here include leopards, caracals, sloth bears, and porcupines. Ranthambore is home to over 300 species of resident and migratory birds. After the safari, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the resort. Working on our media project was also interesting. Overall, our journey was wonderful and full of learning about wildlife.
