In the modern world, where so much has changed, we got the opportunity to explore two traditional art forms of Jaipur, Rajasthan: block printing and blue pottery. Block printing is an ancient technique in which artisans carve designs into wooden blocks, dip them in dye, and stamp them onto fabric by hand. We were excited to try this craft ourselves. Our visit to a traditional blue pottery shop was interesting because we saw skilled craftspeople working together to create beautiful handicrafts. We learnt that Jaipur’s blue pottery is famous because artisans use quartz stone powder instead of traditional clay. The pottery is known for its blue and turquoise colours and delicate floral designs. We also noticed the colourful tiles and designs displayed around the workshop.

Another exciting part of our visit was the hands-on block printing activity. The artisans patiently taught us how to use wooden blocks and press them evenly onto white fabric to create patterns. We learnt that Sanganer, near Jaipur, is known for its traditional block printing, especially delicate floral designs. We enjoyed trying the technique and realised that making neat patterns requires patience and careful placement.

From our team’s perspective, block printing was a unique and completely new experience. It made the trip more fun and creative. We finally witnessed the skill and effort that go into making traditional handicrafts. We even realised that we could try simple block printing at home using DIY kits. Exploring these crafts helped us understand how Jaipur’s artisans preserve traditional skills through their work. The experience was simply incredible and unforgettable!
