Udaipur, often called the City of Lakes, is one of the most enchanting destinations in India, where culture, history, and nature come together in perfect harmony. As we arrived in this beautiful city, surrounded by hills and sparkling waters, we immediately felt its calm and timeless charm.
The city is surrounded by the majestic Aravalli Hills, which are among the oldest mountain ranges in the world and form a natural shield around Udaipur. The view of the lakes against these hills is breathtaking. From the shimmering waters of Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake to the peaceful Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar, each lake has its own story. We learnt that Lake Pichola was man-made, created in the 14th century to meet the city’s water needs, and today it continues to sustain local life.
Exploring the city, we noticed how closely its natural beauty is linked with its royal heritage. The magnificent City Palace, standing proudly by Lake Pichola, reflects the blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. We also learnt that the Udaipur City Palace is one of Rajasthan’s biggest city palace complexes. Yet, with the rise of tourism and urbanisation, these treasures face increased threats such as pollution, waste, and unsustainable practices.
With our experience we realised that its heritage will continue to thrive only if we protect its natural surroundings with care and responsibility. Preserving this harmony between nature and culture is what keeps the true spirit of Udaipur alive. Overall, our journey to Udaipur was fabulous, and we will definitely visit this place again.
