The Glorious Amber Fort 2025

Back to wall

Amer Fort, also known as Amber Fort, is located in Amer, Rajasthan, India. During our visit to Amer Fort, we were impressed by its blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture. We learnt that it was built by Raja Man Singh, and further additions were made by Sawai Jai Singh.

The fortified hill city of Amber once served as the capital of the Kachwaha Rajput kings before the capital was shifted to Jaipur by Sawai Jai Singh II. The construction of the fort was completed in 1725. Interestingly, the fort was designed to serve as an escape route during wars.

Spread across an area of about four square kilometres, the fort is laid out on four levels and consists of the Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Sheesh Mahal, and Sukh Niwas. The Diwan-e-Aam was used for public audiences, while the Diwan-e-Khas was reserved for the king and his ministers to conduct private meetings. We found intricate latticework on the windows of the women’s quarters, allowing them to observe without being seen. We entered the private quarters of the royal family through the Ganesh Pol. A temple within the fort is dedicated to the goddess Shila Devi. At the base of the fort lies the Moata Lake, which provided water to the fort.

Amer Fort is a valuable and important monument with a rich history. It remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Jaipur and offers a truly remarkable experience. The fort’s architecture reflects both beauty and strategic brilliance.
