We visited the vibrant pink city of Jaipur to immerse ourselves in its breathtaking culture and architecture. One of the highlights of our trip was exploring the rich crafts of Jaipur, particularly the art of block printing and the blue pottery.

During our visit to a local workshop, we were captivated by the designs and intricate carvings of the wooden blocks used in block printing. The craftsmanship was truly inspiring. We even had the chance to create our own handkerchiefs using block printing techniques, which made us appreciate the skill involved even more.

Jaipur is renowned for its distinct block printing styles, including Bagru and Sanganeri prints. Bagru printing uses natural dyes and is characterised by intricate floral designs and vibrant colours. We learnt that this practice dates back over 500 years, and Jaipur’s block-printed textiles are highly sought after both locally and internationally.

We also explored the fascinating world of blue pottery, known for its stunning blue and white designs. This craft, which originated from Persian influences, features beautiful motifs and vibrant colours. We marvelled at the artisans’ techniques as they shaped and painted each piece, creating stunning pottery that is both functional and decorative.

Our journey through the crafts of Jaipur left us with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for the city’s artistic legacy. We felt incredibly grateful for the opportunity to witness and participate in these remarkable traditions.
