Student on the Louvre: A Man-Made Wonder Housing Man-Made Wonders 2020

Back to wall

They say that Disneyland Paris is the happiest place on earth but the happiest places are the ones steeped in history, intrigue, and death. The Louvre is the most-visited art museum and it opened its doors in August 1793 displaying 537 paintings. The Louvre has almost 35,000 objects on display that hail from the prehistoric times up to the 19th century.

The Louvre looks more like a fancy European castle rather than a museum. It originated as a medieval fortress and was the home of French royalty for some centuries. Surprisingly, the main attraction of the Louvre is Leonardo da Vinci’s The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is quite a deceptive painting as it may be perceived differently from different angles and this is what makes it famous.

The Louvre, being one of the most important museums in the world, is an ever-evolving architectural and historical landmark. It could take about three full days just to enter all the rooms inside. It is home to priceless antiquities, works of the masters, and stunning architecture, including the inverted glass pyramid. The upside-down pyramid is certainly a modern architectural marvel. The Louvre is a book through which we can learn to read.

The Louvre is one of the world’s most famous museums. Anyone who has a slight interest in art must visit the Louvre. In 2018, the Louvre received 10.2 million visitors in 2018. Some of the museum’s most celebrated works of art include The Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. The latter is an ancient sculpture made of marble, which is believed to represent the Greek goddess Aphrodite.

Our visit to the Louvre was really insightful as we got to see some great works of art.
