Hands-On with Jaipur’s Traditional Crafts 2025

Back to wall

During our trip to Jaipur, we visited a block printing and blue pottery workshop. All of us enjoyed the workshop a lot. We learnt many new things and also got the opportunity to do activities with our own hands.

First, we visited the block printing workshop. The instructor showed us wooden blocks with beautiful designs that are used for printing on cloth. He demonstrated the process by dipping the block into colour and then pressing it firmly onto the fabric to create a pattern. After watching the demonstration, we tried block printing ourselves. We carefully pressed the blocks onto the cloth, and the designs came out neatly. It was exciting to see the patterns appear, and we enjoyed the activity very much.

Next, we went to the blue pottery workshop. We learnt that blue pottery is a famous craft of Jaipur and is mainly done in blue and white colours. We saw plates, bowls, and tiles decorated with floral and bird designs. Each of us was given a small tile to paint on. With the guidance of the artisan, we painted our designs carefully. Making our own blue pottery tile was a fun and memorable experience. This visit helped us learn outside the classroom in a practical way. We understood the hard work and patience required by artisans to create such beautiful handicrafts. Overall, it was a wonderful learning experience, and we will always remember this workshop visit.
