‘Dharamshala’ literally translates to ‘a sanctuary or house of Dharma’, and it surely lives up to its name. With breathtaking mountains and a diverse population, Dharamshala is a beautiful melting pot that attracts tourists from around the globe. Upon entering Dharamshala, you are immediately greeted with magnificent mountains spotted with dense coniferous trees. Your spirit is instantly revitalised by a sudden hit of crisp & chilly wind as you experience temperatures varying between 6°C–16°C.

The beauty of these mountains is significantly enhanced by the natives’ commitment to minimal encroachment on nature. The mountainous route is not carved up into highways, but rather has small pathways, just wide enough for vehicles to pass. The drivers also share this understanding, avoiding road rage and accidents. Talking about people, individuals of all cultural backgrounds stay here. Buddhists have Namgyal Monastery, Christians have St. John Church, and Hindus have Bhagsu Nag Temple; all exist peacefully here with mutual respect.

The local population showcases great hospitality to both national and international tourists, confidently expressing Dharamshala’s culture. Living in such a terrain, the population is hardworking and disciplined in their way of life. Ancient scriptures such as the Rig Veda and Mahabharata mention the Dharamshala-Kangra region, directly connecting the past with the ever-changing future. In a nutshell, Dharamshala is not merely a mountainous terrain, but a destination for a myriad of cultures and traditions, where every way of life is embraced and valued. The peaceful and breathtaking scenic beauty of the hills not only amuses the local communities but also welcomes travellers from all over the world.
