Agra Fort: A Walk Through Mughal Power and Life 2026

Back to wall

Have you ever wondered what it felt like to be a Mughal king and live in that time? Our visit to Agra Fort gave us a real glimpse into royal life and power. The fort is located in the historic city of Agra and was primarily built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. The fort is filled with stories of rulers and battles.

As we entered the fort, we saw a massive gate called the Amar Singh Gate, rising about 20 metres high. The fort is built using red sandstone and has double walls and steep pathways designed for strong defence. We observed that the buildings have floral and intricate geometric patterns.

As we walked further, we noticed a clear change in style. We learnt that Emperor Shah Jahan transformed parts of Agra Fort by adding luxurious white marble palaces between 1631 and 1640, along with delicate inlay work and fine carvings. The fort also houses Sheesh Mahal, decorated with tiny mirrors.

The most interesting part was the Musamman Burj, from where we could see the Taj Mahal in the distance. It is believed that Shah Jahan spent his last days here after being imprisoned by his son, Aurangzeb. In 1983, Agra Fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort tells stories of power, architecture, and even family conflicts within the Mughal Empire.
