The Inevitable Beauty of Dalhousie 2023

Back to wall

Did you know that Dalhousie, our beloved hill station, was once a favourite retreat of the colonisers?
Dalhousie, a hill station located in Chamba in the northwestern state of Himachal Pradesh, was established in 1854 by the British Empire as a summer retreat for British troops and bureaucrats in India.

Our journey to Dalhousie and Khajjiar was accompanied by eagerness and anticipation of the numerous attractions this destination has to offer. The iconic hill stations captivate visitors with their flawless natural beauty. Similar to the meticulous artistry seen in resin paintings, the colonial buildings like St John’s Church and St Francis Church here are crafted with great care. The traffic may give you a bit of a headache, but the magnificent view around will soothe the pain. It won’t be wrong to blame the traffic anyway because the condition of the roads in this area is quite poor. They contribute significantly to adding an unexpected adventurous twist to the journey.

Khajjiar, commonly known as the “Mini Switzerland of India,” offers a backdrop of the Western Himalayas. Kind and helpful people present at every corner of this town can make you overlook some negative experiences. One such concern we encountered was the sight of garbage disposed off at corners. The local guides here play the role of a personalised encyclopaedia for tourists, making them feel as if they’ve known the place forever.

In conclusion, we would like to say that Dalhousie and Khajjiar are undoubtedly the hidden gems of our country’s colonial past. Its natural beauty can definitely blow every traveller’s mind.
