Secrets of The Taj Mahal 2023

Back to wall

Did you know that the Taj Mahal was built by a Mughal emperor in the memory of his wife? Or that it cost around Rs.70 billion to build when calculated in present day dollars? Well, today we are here to tell you all about it. Let us delve deeper into the secrets of the Taj.

The Taj Mahal was commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1632 in the loving memory of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of the 42 acres complex took twenty-two years.

The Taj Mahal was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. It was described as the ‘Jewel of Muslim Art in India’ and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.

The main structure of the Taj Mahal is surrounded by four pillars, each with a wide central arch rising to 108 feet at its apex. The onion dome adorning the top of the Taj Mahal is 110 m high. It is believed that the pure white colour of the mausoleum is diminishing due to the acid rain caused by air pollution. This is the reason why we should take action against climate change and preserve our heritage.

This would be all for our blog. We hope you enjoyed reading it.

In conclusion, we would like to ask you a question. Do you still think the Taj Mahal is ‘just another building’?
