Ranthambore is one of the most famous animal habitats in India. It showcases the vibrant beauty of nature and wildlife. The national park is best known for its population of majestic tigers, which are the main attraction for visitors. Apart from tigers, Ranthambore is home to several other species such as the golden mongoose, spotted deer, sloth bears, and jackals. Although it is not officially a bird sanctuary, it is home to over 300 species of birds.
Our trip to Ranthambore was filled with tremendous adventure. The thrill of witnessing wildlife made it even more fun. From the naturalist, Mr. Pankaj, we learnt about the behaviour, habitat, and conservation of tigers along with other amazing animal species. At the Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History, the incredible story of Machali, the most photographed tigress in the world, caught our attention.
We also went to an NGO, where we were amused by the beauty of the handicrafts made by hardworking women. There was a collection of handmade clothes, pottery, cotton animal soft toys, and shawls. Later, we returned to our resort for rest and breakfast, surrounded by the park’s flora and fauna. It was then that we realised that our lives are interdependent.
However, the most heartbreaking fact we learnt was that tigers are still being hunted for body parts used in traditional medicines. But healing should not come at the cost of killing. It loses its value when one part of nature is destroyed just to heal another. Humans should realise that tigers, too, have families like us, and Ranthambore is their home. Tigers have a right to live, just like all other animals and humans. Killing them for our benefit creates an unbalanced environment. To solve this issue, humans should do further research and use naturally dead animals for our needs.
