Mysore Palace – A Mixture of Heritage and History 2024

We visited the famed Mysore Palace that took a total of 15 years to build. The construction of the Mysore Palace started in 1897 and it was completed in 1912. This beautiful palace is located in the city of Mysore in Karnataka. Its exquisite interiors are replete with carved mahogany ceilings, stained glass windows, gilded pillars, and glazed tiles epitomising royalty and grandeur. The beauty of the Mysore Palace made us believe that it might be the most visited palace in India.

Mysore palace was one of the most modern buildings in India when it was built hundreds of years ago. We saw elevators installed in the Mysore Palace. The material used for the construction of the Mysore Palace was imported from other countries. The chandeliers were imported from Belgium. We discovered that every year during the Dussehra festival the Mysore Palace is decorated with lights and flowers. We also learnt that the Mysore Palace gets illuminated with 97,000 bulbs and turns into a glorious spectacle on Sundays and public holidays.

Our guide informed us that Mysore, the city, is famous, globally, for sandalwood, rosewood, incense sticks, ivory-work and exquisite silk sarees. Mysore has recently emerged as one of the major IT hubs in Karnataka.

We believe that along with the city of Mysore, the Mysore Palace is an iconic symbol of Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage and is a must visit destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, and art. It resembles the legacy of the powerful rulers and kings who lived in the Mysore Palace. The Mysore Palace is a wonderful place to visit, with so many ancient items to explore.
