Our journey to Agra was filled with anticipation as we set out to explore the city’s rich history and monuments. We were particularly excited to visit Agra Fort, a site that deepened our understanding of the Mughal Empire and its legacy.
We started our exploration of Agra Fort by learning about the key rulers of the Mughal Empire, whose reigns shaped Agra. We discovered the stories of Babar, who established the dynasty from 1526 to 1530, and his son Humayun, who ruled during two periods: from 1530 to 1540 and again from 1555 to 1556. Akbar’s reign, from 1556 to 1605, stood out to us, as he transformed Agra into a modern city, naming it Akbarabad.
Walking through the fort, we imagined what life was like during the times of Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb. We learnt that Jahangir beautified the city during his rule from 1605 to 1627, while Shah Jahan, who later commissioned the Taj Mahal, reigned from 1628 to 1658. We noted how Aurangzeb’s reign from 1658 to 1707 marked a turning point, as his successors struggled to maintain the empire’s grandeur.
As we wandered through the impressive gates and courtyards of Agra Fort, we marvelled at the blend of strength and beauty in its design. Each corner of the fort told a story, reminding us of the rich history it had witnessed. We took time to appreciate the strategic importance of the fort and how it served as both a military stronghold and a royal residence. This journey left us with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for the city and its remarkable heritage.
