When our teacher told us that we were going to visit a blue pottery and block printing factory, we all imagined something modern and well-structured. Instead, we explored a simple and open workshop space that revealed the authentic culture of Jaipur.

Our first stop was the blue pottery section. We sat on carpets in small rooms, each of us given square tiles crafted by local artisans along with water-based paints. We learnt about the scientific process behind crafting, shaping, and firing these tiles. After sketching our designs, we carefully painted them using a variety of colours.

Next, we visited the block printing area, which was vibrant and full of activity. Wooden blocks with intricate carvings were arranged neatly in rows. We observed the workers as they dipped the blocks into dye and stamped them on fabric with perfect precision. Then came our turn. We tried dipping and pressing the blocks ourselves, soon realising it was not as easy as it looked. Some of our prints overlapped or had missed spots, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

By the end, our fingers and aprons were covered in colour, and our minds filled with admiration. The workshop was simple, but the people there were true artists. They taught us that beauty lies in skill and passion, and that tradition remains alive, one print and one pot at a time.
