Discovering Kasauli, a Town Straight out of a Vintage Postcard 2025

Back to wall

Kasauli, a quiet hill station in Himachal Pradesh, is known for its untouched natural beauty and deep connection to the British colonial era. Surrounded by pine and cedar forests, the town still holds the British era charm.

Tucked away in the serene hills, Kasauli was more than just a hill station. Visiting it felt like stepping into a living remnant of the British Raj. Established in 1842 as a cantonment town, Kasauli exuded the quiet elegance of a bygone era. Its gabled cottages, manicured gardens, and winding lanes echoed stories from over a century ago.

Strolling through Kasauli felt like stepping into a vintage postcard. The colonial influence was evident in the town’s architecture. Quaint bungalows with sloping roofs, stone walls, and green shuttered windows were scattered across the hills. We came to know that there are army officers still living here. We visited the famous Mall Road of Kasauli and spotted shops which were selling authentic Himachali food like the Siddu. The Mall Road is also known for various souvenir shops, selling candles and fridge magnets. Close to the Mall Road was the Christ Church. Built in 1853, the church with its Gothic style architecture stands as a proud sentinel of the past. We observed stained glass windows of the church which cast coloured lighting on polished floors. The next day, we visited Monkey Point with our friends and teachers. We trekked uphill, and from the top, we were rewarded with a breathtaking view of the entire town.

Kasauli’s British era charm lay in its colonial architecture, serene churches, and the tranquil hill town atmosphere. It echoes the elegance and simplicity of the Raj period, offering a timeless escape into history and nature.
