Walking Into the Wild 2025

Back to wall

Visiting the Viraatkhai camp, surrounded by mountains, while exploring nature’s beauty and wilderness in Chakrata, was an unforgettable experience. This experience was accompanied by learning different survival techniques, working with different teams, and spending the night in the wild.

Moving through the tall, hilly mountains, with temperatures reaching nearly 15℃ and the possibility of heavy rain at any time, was challenging. Our team, Team Bulls, had an overnight stay in Viratkhai resorts, located in the Himalayan ranges.

For an overnight stay, the most important step is to pack essential items that greatly support survival while camping. Items such as woollen jackets, trekking suits, raincoats, clothing, washroom wear, and torches are crucial. Without these, survival is as tough as driving a car without fuel.

Staying in the resort felt like a relief and a break from the outside world. Having no access to the internet and other technologies made us realise how deeply we relied on them. The early morning sunrise, accompanied by the sweet chirping sounds of birds, felt just like heaven. While staying in the campsites, we always followed guidelines to ensure we did not harm the wild or ourselves. We never disturbed the animals, nor did we engage in any activity that involved feeding them. Most importantly, we minimised any traces of our presence in the area.

To sum up, participants were required to pack essentials suitable for varying conditions. In the wilderness, we always moved in groups, so that in case of emergency, there was a backup rescuer. We never disturbed any animal for enjoyment as this could have led to dangerous situations. Lastly, we made sure not to pollute the wild with our waste or consumed items.
