The Magic of Keoladeo National Park 2023

Back to wall

On the second day of our excursion to Agra-Bharatpur with EdTerra Edventures, we explored Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur. Formerly recognised as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, this national park is one of the few protected havens for more than three hundred species of permanent and migratory birds. Provisions of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 and the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 legally protect the national park. The park is a testament to the region’s commitment to preserving and safeguarding its diverse avian inhabitants.

Venturing into the depths of the national park, we were enthralled by the captivating experiences it had to offer. Our excitement geared up as we initially encountered a few deer and heard a distinctive laughter-like sound. Following the source of the sound led us to a fascinating sight. We saw a laughing dove who turned out to be the originator of the distinctive sounds.

As we delved further into the national park, we reached the wetland area, which was even more mesmerising. The water surface was covered with algae. Our attention was suddenly drawn to a snake in the water; it was scary yet exciting to observe the way it slithered. Then we spotted a tiny blue-coloured common kingfisher, a few swans and more deer.

Our visit to Keoladeo National Park was an encounter with the beauty of nature, where we gained a wealth of knowledge about the diverse flora and fauna inhabiting the area. Witnessing such a rich array of experiences within a single location was fascinating, highlighting the incredible biodiversity that coexists harmoniously in this unique sanctuary.
