The Beauty and Defence Mechanism of Agra Fort 2023

Back to wall

Agra Fort is one of the most important monuments in the history of the Mughal Empire and continues to retain its significance in contemporary India. The fort is not only an architectural marvel but also earns heightened appreciation for its strategic positions and defenses.

We entered Agra Fort through Amar Singh Gate. Notably, the fort has three distinct entry gates, deliberately concealed from each other in a zig-zag formation. We climbed up an inclined surface to delve into the fort. This not only posed a physical challenge but also contributed to a significant boost in our daily step count.

As we explored further, we reached Musamman Burj, where Shah Jahan was held captive by his son Aurangzeb. The structure made of white marble offers a great view of the Taj Mahal. It is believed that Shah Jahan used to admire the beauty of the Taj from this vantage point.

Continuing our exploration, we encountered Diwan-i Aam, a designated space where common people could meet the emperor and present their grievances. This aspect of the fort’s architecture highlighted its multifaceted role in serving both as a formidable fortress and a space for imperial interactions with the public.

Presently, approximately 75% of Agra Fort is under the jurisdiction of the Indian Army, while only 25% remains accessible to the public. The preservation of Agra Fort is imperative, and its historical, cultural, and architectural significance must be upheld for future generations. Everyone should aspire to visit Agra Fort at least once in their lifetime to appreciate the grandeur and historical significance it embodies.
