Students Up-close with the Niagara Falls Experience
One can best enjoy Niagara Falls during the ferry ride named the Maid of the Mist. It is a journey into the heart of one of North America’s most powerful waterfalls. You can hear the thundering roar of the 60,000 gallons of water falling right before your eyes and feel the mighty rush of the mist on your face aboard the ferry. One can feel the chilling thrill down the spine while riding the Maid of the Mist. It is bound to leave you wondrous and curious. It is an exhilarating experience that promises a wonderful time.
Niagara Falls is actually a combination of three waterfalls. These waterfalls are: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. The largest of the three is Horseshoe Falls, which is also known as Canadian Falls.
The waterfall lies at the southern end of Niagara Gorge. The waterfall also forms an international border between the USA and Canada. It is located between the Canadian province of Ontario and the American state of New York. Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls lies within the American boundary. During our visit to Niagara Falls, we learnt that it is situated about 27 kilometres towards the north-west of Buffalo. Moreover, it lies 121 km south-east of Toronto.
Niagara Falls came into existence at the time of the last Ice Age. When the Great Lakes were formed due to diminishing of glaciers, the water from the Lakes found its path to the Atlantic Ocean via Niagara Escarpment. This led to the formation of the mighty waterfall.
Niagara Falls is not only popular for its scenic beauty but it is also a valuable source of hydroelectricity. Interestingly, it provides one-fourth of all power that is required in New York and Ontario.
Niagara Falls should be on everyone’s bucket list of places to travel.
